    Hi everyone!

In the last few months, because I like to design levels and stuff, I started messing around with MMU to create an endless stage mechanic just like in MM9-10. (You can see a glimpse of it in my Happy New year video on Youtube.) I just thought we had a lot of great enemies and game mechanics in MMU and that it would be nice to design new levels with them so I started doing this for fun.
Endless Attack is great because it re-uses everything we already have without the need to create new stuff (except levels of course).
But with my personal life that just got a lot busier now, it would take quite long for me to design the 25-or-so remaining sections of the endless level. (That’s a lot of sections!)

What I’m doing then, is I’m asking you guys if you are interested in helping me to design those sections.

    How this would work:
    – You post your ideas in this forum. (Your level design must respect the rules) or send it to megamanunlimited@megaphilx.com.
You don’t have to design a tileset. I’ll take care of the graphics part.
You have to at least draw the collisions and pinpoint where the enemies and gimmicks should be located so that I get the idea.
    – I look at your ideas.
    – I select the better ones and I’ll implement them in the game.
Keep in mind that I will probably have to revise your idea and tweak it. Even my own challenge ideas never end up playing like I expected so be wary of that.

    The Rules:
    – Only use existing enemies.
    – No mid-bosses (They will show up in their own sections)
    – No collectibles (Life Energy, E-Tanks, Bolts and stuff)
    – No areas that absolutely require a special weapon to get through. It should be possible to get through without special weapons. They could make it easier but it shouldn,t block you if you want to only use the buster.
    – We can have sections inspired by existing levels from the original games, but try to be as creative as possible and design original areas.
    – Try to stick with no more than 4 different types of enemies in 1 section.
    – You can use some existing gimmicks but they might have limitations you are not aware of so, we’ll see as I check out your ideas.
    – Level design must be challenging but fair.
    – A screen is 256 x 224 pixels. You have to respect those dimensions.
    – The shapes of the levels are preset. We only have to fill them up with gameplay, so, pick a shape among the following:

2 Screens Going Up + 4 Screens Horizontally
4 Screens Horizontally + 2 Screens Going Up
2 Screens Going Down + 4 Screens Horizontally
4 Screens Horizontally + 2 Screens Going Down
5 Screens Horizontally + 1 Screen Going Down
4 Screens Going Up + 2 Screens Horizontally
2 Screens Horizontally + 4 Screens Going Up

Check out this map to see what is left to be done. (Blue sections are done)

Keep in mind I do this in my free time. I can’t tell when things will be finished. All placeholder sections are functional in the stage but it still takes a while to design tilesets and backgrounds. Placing the enemies and tweaking them also takes a while so please, be patient. That’s the golden rule here. Also, I can’t provide any compensation for the work you might do (except giving you credits in some way) and if I encounter a major problem preventing me from finishing this task, it might never get completed. I waited a while before getting this little project out there to make sure things were possible but, we never know. It also depends on the help I can get.

You can ask people you know if they would be interested. It would be nice to get levels designed by some famous Megaman players like Egoraptor, Clement, RoahmMythril, PinkKittyRose, etc… I wonder how a level designed by Inafune would play like… ^_^
Also, if you have some interesting tilesets to contribute, please let me know too.

Let me know what you think! ^_^

Hmm, it could be interesting, but tree questions:

1 – did you plan to put lasers (quickman lasers)?, if that’s the case, don’t do it please (LoL)

2 – The full game will need to be downloaded? As i can see, you’re acepting fan designs, it’s a thing wich can be constantly drawn by ppl, so, even knowing you’ll be doing it on free time, i propose you to think some way to (you) upload new maps in a “patch” format, endless mode from 9 & 10 are boring because they have allways the very same maps, it could be something to give even more replay value for this mode and the game overall.

3 – Some news about the new boss?

1- There might be some of them. We’ll see. (:
2- Yes, the full game will need to be downloaded. It will be similar to MM9-10 but with a few twists.
3- I’m going to post more info on WhirlpoolMan when there is something to report. (:

So, it must be sprited? I mean, it’s not permitted to upload pencil sketches and etc?

I guess you could scan pictures and upload them but it will be more work to convert them…

By the way, I’m sorry the files linked in the original post weren’t set up as accessible by the public. It is fixed now. I’m an idiot… : P

Well, I’m asking this, because I think there will be people who would want to help, but they don’t have spriting skills. Still, you’re the boss, and it’s your rules.

No need to draw detailed sprites, just draw basic collisions shape. (Click the links I uncluded and you’ll see)

Another question: can I use sprites from other MM games just for template?

Here is my first idea. About second screen – I’m not sure, if it’s possible to drop in to the pit safely when there is an enemy popping out. About 5th screen – I think, it would be fair to give player 2 choices – to speed-run this place, or just to get rid of jars with nitro and just jump across the spikes.
